Day 1
Location: South Bend, IN
Well, here I am. Staring out the windows of the South Bend airport while the minutes tick by. 30 minutes from now I will step on to Delta Flight 6592 to Detroit and begin my travels. From Detroit I will hop across the ocean, and into the unknown. I land at Heathrow airport in London tomorrow morning, then I'll head out into the city. Thats really when the adventure begins.
Things are going to be quite different this year. On September 5th I will be starting classes at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London after having spent the last three years living and working in Seattle WA. Some things I expect will be comfortingly familiar. Mostly I'm thinking of the weather. I checked the weather report for London and it looks like I'll be arriving to rain and gloom. Ah, the weather of home. Other than that I expect there will be much that is unfamiliar.
I cant wait to get started. I've been anticipating this move for quite some time, and to be honest the suspense is killing me. Right now I'm living in a state of uncertainty and anxiety. I am more than ready to stop worrying about this year and start living it.
So here I go, boldly stepping into the unknown. Ready to begin my adventure.
Wish me luck!
And now you're in the air and truly on your way at last! After all the months of planning, here is the Velveteen Rabbit moment when it all becomes real. I remember the incredible conflicting emotions when I left for my year in London - at just about the age you are now - but that the top note was a fierce, zinging excitement that got bigger and warmer and louder the closer we got to Heathrow. And then you look down and see that green land spreading out - oh, the shades and intensities of green there that you never imagined - nothing quite like it. It's always felt at some very deep level like coming home to me (past lives, perhaps!) and I hope it will have something of that for you too. Let the blogging commence!
